Diver Down was Van Halen’s 4th album out of 5 with their original lineup with David Lee Roth, this wasn’t my favorite Van Halen album growing up, but it became my favorite album later. It is not as heavy as their earlier albums, it has a different vibe then their other albums which I appreciate differently now than I did when I was 15. I chose this as my first Van Halen album because I was looking for a bold color pop for an installation wall I was creating, the album is essentially the diving flag with bold text. Before I started digitizing the album cover I superimposed the classic VH logo on top of the flag, I then embroidered a circular yarn pattern in red, grey and white that stitches the logo on top of the flag using a negative space technique. The lettering was added last, stitched through the yarn.
