When I am embroidering on an album cover I often know what I want to do before I start. The White Album was one that evolved through the process. I have been a Beatles fan since I was a child and the White Album was always a favorite of mine, I think because the artwork was such a stark contrast from the previous album artwork. It was a double album full of both pop songs and obscure abstract explorations. When it came time to embroider this album cover, which is essentially a blank canvas I approached it as an abstract. I embroidered an abstract pattern in white yarn that curls and whirls over the smooth white surface of the album. The title was added as a patch. The minimalism and simplicity of color scheme make this one of my favorite pieces. Interestingly, this album artwork is the only album that did not feature the members of the band on its cover. The artwork is a perfect blend of visual and musical culture.
