For this classic Beatles album of the Fab Four crossing Abbey Road, I wanted to try something different. The picture of them walking reminded by of the amazing artist Julian Opie’s work. His cartoon images of people walking always makes me smile so I decided to create the Abbey Road album cover paying homage to both my favorite band and one of my favorite artists. I started by embroidering the whole London street scene with over 50,000 free motion stitches in over 25 different colors of thread. I then created cartoon images of each of the beatles with bold black outlines. They were then embroidered as patches and collaged onto the album. The combination of realistic stitching on the background combined with the animated Beatles makes for and interesting juxtaposition.
