I hand-selected each album then set out to embroider them. To make the art, each thread must be hand-digitized using digital drawing tools on a scan of the actual album as a backdrop. Every stitch is drawn by hand, one at a time. The embroidery process itself is the most interesting and has to be seen to believe. The cover for this album is a photograph of a sculpture created to look like a a cake. Everything is perched over an album on a turntable--film reels, a tire, a clock face as well as frosting and mini figures of the band. This album has been on my wall for a while waiting for me to start it, this was a very difficult project and I kept putting it off. Someone commissioned it so it went into the lineup. I started by stitching a waxy geometric background in tonal threads to give the background some interest and then the cake. There are over 75 different colors of thread in this piece and over 100,000 painstakingly placed stitches in the project. The end result is amazing. The thread gives Let it bleed dimension and depth. The album title was created as a patch and mounted to the album as the finishing step.
The albums take up to 8 hours to embroider and can contain over 200,000 stitches. The series is created and designed to be hung together so you can add to your installation wall as you discover new pieces I create. Each of the albums comes with a signed certificate and is framed in acrylic and measures 12" x 12" x 2".
